BMT Buys Pioneering Hi-tech American Firm

09-May-2002

British Maritime Technology Limited (BMT) announced today the acquisition of the leading US intelligence and engineering firm, Syntek Technologies Inc., which specialises in naval engineering, product development and counter intelligence.

Making it the fourth BMT operating company in North America, the purchase of Syntek Technologies will provide BMT with an excellent platform for continued expansion into the US market, and the opportunity to work with names such as Lockheed Martin, Toyota, the US Navy and the US Coastguard.

Syntek Technologies’ impressive client portfolio engages perfectly with BMT’s current range of services. The company will be working closely with BMT subsidiary BMT Designers & Planners, for example, to integrate and extend the services on offer to the US Navy, such as the integrated electric power systems currently being designed.

Syntek Technologies also helps companies with new technologies tailor the products for specific uses. An example is Light Emitting Polymers, which were developed by Cambridge Display Technologies in the UK – technology that could transform the way information is received.

Additionally, the company is involved with intelligence and information technology provision, and Counter Intelligence is the fastest growing division within Syntek Technologies.

BMT’s Chief Executive, Roger Swann said: “The acquisition of Syntek Technologies will have a positive impact on BMT’s ability to provide clients with a total solution capability. Much of Syntek’s intellectual property can be applied to BMT’s existing services and products, taking the company forward to becoming a world leader for 21st Century.”
